Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 07/28/2014

Number: 2

On our last day of many 90+ temperatures and varied rain patterns, 4 of us were doing our usual Monday a.m. maintenance in the SC Botanical Garden's butterfly garden. Upon arriving at approximately 8:30 a.m. one of the volunteers had already spotted an adult that had stopped to nectar. About an hour later, I, too, spotted an adult which was checking out the A. currasavica. It didn't stay long enough for me to identify it sexually. I don't know if this was the same one observed earlier.
This is early for us to see monarchs, but our garden has an exceptional amount of milkweeds: A. syriaca, incarnate, tuberose, speciosa and the currasavica.
Today is the start of an expected "cool down" of temps in the lower 80's, but no rain predicted.
