No monarch adults or caterpillars were seen in the vicinity of many patches of Asclepias fascicularis milkweed that were growing near S Kasson Rd (Lat./Long.: 37.749828, -121.346569) and Mancuso Rd west of downtown Tracy, Calif. on July 27, 2014. These observations compliment my other July observations in the region that the size of the monarch breeding population in the northern San Joaquin Valley, southern Sacramento Valley and adjacent foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains is far below normal for the month of July.
