Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 07/29/2014

Number: 3

Three adults sighted in this area -- first of the year. Uncertain of gender. All were flying. We plant and propagate several types of milkweed including Ascelpias tuberosa and Asclepias incarnata. I checked with our landscape manager and he said that we do have a few Asclepias curassavica plants mixed in with our other milkweeds.

Typically we see our first monarchs in August here. Rarely do we have any during the spring migration. People have told us about a "maroon" colony on the coast of Georgia, though I have not seen it, that overwinters there like the colony in Florida.
