Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 07/30/2014

Number: 1

If you find you are running short of asclepias tuberosa for raising monarchs indoors, then you may use the common milkweed asclepias syriaca. We were running low on the tuberosa so tried some syriaca with 5 caterpillars to see how they would take it.
At first they didn't seen to recognize it as food, but after about an hour they were munching away like usual. To find some of the syriaca that has not been sprayed you may call your local road supervisor and ask for the areas that they have NOT sprayed. Good luck to everyone out there with your "babies".
