While doing regular Monday a.m. maintenance in the SC Botanical Garden's butterfly garden, an adult monarch appeared on A. currasavica. Hoping that it would be a female, I was able to approach close enough to see that it was a male. 5 visitors were with me as we watched it fly around, mostly nectaring on zinnias. I was able to see it again close enough to identify it as the same male for about 20 minutes.
