We live 1/2 a block from the western end of Lake Ontario. We have seen the #'s of the Monark butterfly dwindle down. We live on one of the migratory routes for the Monark heading for Pelee point or island near Windsor ON
4 yrs. ago, I witnessed a large group of Monarks fly right over our back deck . We have a large row of 80 yr. old Norway Spruce & there is a gap where we lost one of the oldest trees from a lightning strike. Late one afternoon around mid September at around 4:30pm, the Monarks wre flying through the gap and above the trees heading south-west.they numbered hundreds. It took me a minute to realize what I was seeing . It took about 10 to 15 min. for them all to pass. They were few at first , then they became thicker, then dwindled. I never saw it happen again. I happened to be at the right place at the right time.
