Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 07/23/2014

Number: 1

Milwaukee, Wisconsin is having a plentiful monarch caterpillar season in 2014. Currently we have approx 30 caterpillars in our backyard milkweed garden, in the 1st and 2nd instar stage. (Still tiny). This is a bountiful improvement from last years (2013) numbers. We also have several in the egg stage. I have also seen several monarch fluttering around (laying eggs) in our milkweed garden. I have been tagging and releasing monarchs for 15 years. The passion to follow monarch migrations was heightened after one of our tagged monarchs was recovered in Mexico a few years ago. Oct 2013 we visited nine (9) overwintering sites in California to observe the monarch fall roost. I hope to visit a fall roost in Mexico some day.
