Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/01/2014

Number: 1

It was feeding on nectar from milkweed by the side of a residential road (a vacant lot) in Johnsonburg Pennsylvania, a very small town in north central PA, about 1200 ft elevation on the Allegheny plateau. I took pictures. I went back later in the day and in the same field (vacant lot crowded with wildflowers) I saw another adult monarch flitting from flower to flower feeding (milkweed). It might have been the same butterfly, I don't know. In the photos I took I can see that the wings are quite worn. A piece is missing from one wing and the wings have lots of marks on them. It must be an old butterfly. I live in Charlotte NC but am visiting relatives in PA. If you want the picture (it's quite clear, a good camera), email me and I'll send it
