Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/08/2014

Number: 3

This morning was looking for eggs and saw 3 females nectaring on zinnias, tropical milkweed, mexican sunflowers and butterfly bushes. Sunny day, low to mid 80's so perfect egg-laying weather. I watched and started seeing them all begin to lay eggs. One seems to prefer small tropical that's only 4 or 5 inches tall so I took the egg off those and placed on larger plant near the top where the softer newer leaves and flowers are. The other two laid on the new common milkweed I planted this year as well as the larger tropicals. About 99% of my plants look very lush and healthy with no hardened leaves and with few pests so they really have their pick with all sizes and textures to choose from. There is also tuberosa and incarnata in the yard and I have found eggs on those too. So far I am caring for at least 325 monarchs. The girls are still laying so will be going out again to sleeve hopefully many more.
