After not seeing a single monarch butterfly all last year, we were thrilled to see three on our milkweed and buddleia today. We were equally surprised when a hummingbird hovered on the buddleia next to the monarch, and the two began chasing each other in the air in small circles around the plant. The monarchs nectared throughout the yard for most of the afternoon, and later we found our first egg on the milkweed.
