Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/12/2014

Number: 3

Have been watching a good sized female and 2 male ruby throats competing for nectar feeders and salvia blossoms for a few days. Hummers seem to prefer nectar feeders over flowers now (just the reverse of about a week ago). Had 2 males and 2 females feeding a couple days ago. But haven't seen the second smaller female since then. Maybe the males or larger female have pushed her out. The one female has really good size. Definitely one of the largest hummingbirds that I have seen including males. Her size is very evident when she is silhoutted against the evening sky when she leaves to roost for the evening. Evening roost departure times are noticeably earlier the last few evenings.
