Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/16/2014

Number: 3

Tropical milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) was planted to attract the monarchs. There are about 50 plants, now in flower. I spotted what I believed was a monarch a couple of blocks away but was not able to get close enough to confirm it was not a mimic species. Yesterday (8/16/14) my son and I saw a monarch and took photos that allowed us to confirm its identity. As we observed we saw a second and third. They would fly off and return over a period of about 3 hours.
