Monarch Larva Sighted

Hello again from Virginia's Eastern Shore! We have an abundance of caterpillars to report...and I'm including this in a "combination" report today! My friend (about a mile away) has over 30 caterpillars with 20 in the chrysalis stage. They were found on her common milkweed which she had transplanted in her yard a few years ago. I helped her construct a netted corner of her side porch so they would have more space. The 2 net cylinder containers weren't enough to hold them all! I have 7 caterpillars of my own from common milkweed, and when stopping by our local garden shop (about 1/4 mile away), they had too many to count on butterfly weed. They asked me to take a few home with me for "foster care" as their butterfly weed was beginning to look sort of shabby with so many aphids and milkweed bugs all over the seed pods, leaves, blooms, etc. I now have 15 on my side porch for safe keeping. Also, while at the garden center, a faded but determined female landed on the butterfly weed and began laying more eggs! So the future is certainly looking better all the time! Yay!
