Monarch Larva Sighted

These cats were of various sizes on milkweed plants on my porch and in garden. I did see one cat attacked by a fly on the porch, and much writhing to keep it away. Brought all cats either to the garden or inside. (Last two chrysalids turned blueblack and did not open. Does this sound like the fly parasite?) Anything I can do to discourage the flies?
Also observed all cats lifting their head ends when I sang a high note. Surprised me. Tried it many times. Worked each time, but some responded more than others. Is this possibly a fly-sound defense? Thanks.
