Mid-afternoon on Aug. 19th I observed a pair of Monarchs mating in my garden here in Bismarck. And as usual they remained connected for several hours.
I had other things to do so left them. Based on this mating, are we going to have a real late hatch?
So far this summer, Monarch production in my yard is much ahead of the past two years. I have five chrysalis' in jars and at least four attached to structures and have had at least five mature larvae "vanish" that I assume have wandered off to attach to something. And I still have smaller/immature larvae hanging about/feeding on milkweed.
