Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Number: 21

Small prairie garden full of blazing stars have attracted a large amount of monarchs this year, much more than last year.

We are convinced that migration has begun here in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

On Thursday, August 21st in the evening during dinner time my husband looked out the window and couldn't believe what he saw. We counted 21 Monarchs at once nectaring in the Blazingstar.

On Friday, August 22nd I again saw 21 Monarchs all at the same time in my very small prairie garden. The monarchs leave near sunset, unknown where they spend the night.

I began tagging that afternoon 20 Monarchs from my house in Bloomington, Minnesota and 3 at a family home in Richfield, Minnesota. Three children, boy age 3, girl age 4, and boy age 6 helped catch, tag, identify gender, and release these Monarchs.

The past two days there have been fewer 6-9 at any given time together, none of which are tagged.

There were 14 nectaring together at 5:30 pm today (August 26) so they are still busy feeding in my area.
