Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/21/2014

Number: 1

I saw a female monarch flying low over previously mowed (now resprouting) vegetation at Michigan State University's South Campus fields. She kept landing on plants to rest, and once nectared quickly on clover. She landed on small common milkweed plants a few times but I was not close enough to see if she was ovipositing before I scared her away. However, the milkweed already had several monarch eggs and caterpillars on them that I saw a few minutes before I saw the butterfly. It was around 3pm on a hot and humid day.
