Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/19/2014

Number: 5

Five hummingbirds (female? juvenile?) at one time constantly in motion during daylight hours, resting on tree branches and climbing rose arbor, and feeding from hummingbird bush and red Turk's cap.

One dead hummingbird (female, I think) on south-facing, shaded patio, possibly a window strike, but strikes are uncommon in this location.

I did not put out feeders this season because we were out of town much of the time and left for our winter home in Florida on August 20. We have, however, almost a quarter of an acre of hummingbird bush, Turk's cap, and salvia Greggii flowering around the house. My report of sighting concerns only the small area immediately outside the back door.
