On vacation in northern Michigan. Kayaking on Lake Michigan we observed over 20 Monarchs flying south along the shoe near Sleeping Bear Dunes. They were singles and every so often one would fly by. This occurred over a 2 hour period. We also observed several Monarchs on flowers in the sand dunes around the lakeshore.
Here in Ohio near our home in Yorkville, I am happy to report several sightings of Monarchs on flowers in nearby fields.
Also, I have seen more milkweed this year than any year in recent history.
These sightings are more than we observed all of last year. Hopefully Monarch numbers are on the rise this year.
