Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/25/2014

Number: 3

After a dearth of Monarchs all summer, the past week has brought Monarchs almost constantly to my garden, up to three at a time. I’m finding a few eggs, but very little of my milkweed is young, and that’s what the females seem to want. There is very little milkweed around my community in general, so teachers want eggs and then can’t find milkweed to feed the caterpillars. Even sand vine seems to be harder to find, except growing on fences. However, to date I haven’t found eggs on sand vine, and most summers I do. It is unbearably hot here, 94 today supposedly feels like 105, but apparently the butterflies don’t mind.
