After the roosting activity of two nights ago, I saw lots of monarchs on the back hills yesterday afternoon.......nearly two dozen, heavily feeding, probably days old local butterflies.
Last night I returned to the alfalfa field and, though that field had been cut, found another fairly good sized field with a couple/few dozen monarchs. These were actively searching for roosts from 6:30pm until dark. One group of 4, but no large clusters that I could see.
A Northwest wind had no doubt moved most of our other monarchs on their way.
Slight north wind predicted tomorrow, so maybe a leisurely migration is underway.
Haven't seen a caterpillar for many days.
