While at my son's cross country meet last night (in Mankato, MN), I was drawn from the course to a beautiful prairie planting. I was richly rewarded with the sights and sounds of the grassland, most especially the splendor of numerous monarchs nectaring from blazing star. Then to my delight I spotted several clusters of butterflies roosting in the trees lining the edge of the prairie. What a spectacular sight! People covered the grounds watching cross country, football and soccer - unaware of the incredible natural phenomenon taking place so silently and magnificently just steps away.
