Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 08/29/2014

Number: 3

It took a whooping 42 days for one monarch generation to develop here, due to the cool summer temperatures. Eggs that I watched being laid on July 17th did not emerge as adults until today, August 29th. (They were 5 days in the egg stage, 21 days as larvae, and 16 days in the chrysalis stage.) I think we're going to see an abundance of mint-condition monarchs here during the 1-2 weeks ahead. Our New England Aster is just coming into bloom today. Seems late...but I don't have records. Photo is one of today's new adults.
