At dusk I was out checking on all my sleeved monarch larvae in the yard when I saw what looked like a newly emerged monarch female perched at the top of a sleeved milkweed. Her lower wing was a little crinkled and it looked like the chrysalis shell was still attached to the side of her abdomen -just a tiny piece of it. She must have gotten stuck yet emerged ok. Humidity is very low here and it's been quite dry. I took her indoors and with a moist Q-tip, removed the tiny piece of chrysalis. I believe she will fly just fine as the crinkle doesn't look like a deformity but will test her for Oe tomorrow before releasing her back into the yard.
