A pair of monarchs were mating in my backyard today. It seems late for mating, but maybe there's just enough time for another generation before heading south. I went outside to photograph them, and by that time they were resting side by side on our Yew bushes. Beautiful, nearly perfect butterflies--not tattered at all. They didn't seem in a hurry, so I don't think they were migrating...yet. They may have been looking for a safe place to rest ahead of the rain storm. My photo of the two of them side by side didn't turn out, but a snapped a few singles.
