Hummingbird wars continue. Skirmishes almost continuous. I have 4 feeders up with 4 juvenile males protecting one each. The ruby throats feeding heavily between bouts. They are also feeding in the hanging baskets of petunias, in althea bush (rose of sharon) both in the flowers and probing between the clustered seed heads, in walker's low nepeta (cat mint) and in the black and blue salvia. I have seen 6 at once today so far. I have not seen any adult males today--yesterday morning was my last sighting.
Today highs will be in the low 90's, partly sunny, 74F low, slight breeze and very humid(72%). Currently 85F at 1 pm. Rained briefly but heavily overnight.
The hummers are also objecting to the larger birds (cardinals, titmice, mockingbirds, and catbird so far) coming to bathe in the bird bath under the althea. They buzz them, sometimes repeatedly, but to little effect.
