I counted at least six monarchs nectaring in red clover on a field about 10 acres in size, but I'm sure there were many, many more. It was hard to count them in the tall, thick vegetation from my vantage point on the roadside. I had stopped to look for monarchs because I saw the expanse of blooming clover -- and the tell-tale sulphur butterflies flitting all about -- that signal there's good nectar. All were in mint condition, especially the one I discovered in the tall grass clearly drying its wings after emerging today.
