Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 08/31/2014

Number: 25

At around 9am I observed 20-30 monarchs in a small prairie area in west central Minnesota. After observing a few flying around nectaring on liatris and goldenrod, I moved closer to a small cottonwood tree in the middle of the prairie area and the rest of the butterflies flew from the tree. Small clusters were observed again the morning of 9/1 in the same tree and other small bushes.
