Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/03/2014

Number: 4

4 Juvenile and female ruby throats feeding on 4 feeders heavily. Last adult male seen Sept 1. Seeing some evidence of migrants coming to feed...circle the area and feeders for some time before coming to feed. (4 birds seen at once is highest count for the day) Most of the birds still seem to be regulars who are familiar with my feeders. Birds are still nectaring at althea bush, black and blue salvia, petunias in hanging baskets, and walker's low nepeta (aka cat mint--it is close to being done for the summer.)Last year I had migrants until the end of the 3rd week of September...cooler weather coming end of this week may mean they depart earlier. Past 3 days highs have been in the mid 90's F and lows in low to mid 70's and mostly sunny. Today was partly sunny to mostly cloudy with high of 89. Tomorrow, Fri. and Sat. similar temps but more sun. and higher humidity. Sun high around 80 F. Today had light breezes to very light breezes.
