Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/03/2014

Number: 20

(3pm) Earlier in the day we had rain and cooler temps but after things dried out a bit the monarchs started coming out to feed on the liatris. We still are seeing regularly about 20 monarchs, young, vibrant color, playful but starting to feed more intensely than last week. If disturbed or updraft of wind, instead of flying off for a bit, they are flying to the other side of the boulevard garden and beginning to feed again. (630pm) Later in the day there were only about 15 feeding even tho' the sky was starting to wrap up and sun starting to go down. This group were very intense on feeding but as the raindrops started to fall, one by one they flew off to their resting places high in the trees. (I still need to figure out where they go at night as I know it must be in the trees in our yard or nearby...!) Today I did see one monarch with faded wings and tips broken off (around 3pm); didn't see him again. Perhaps a traveler from Canada or northern Minnesota. Hope they make it on their journey south! Signing off from a sunny (sometimes rainy) boulevard garden on a busy urban street in southwest Minneapolis!
