Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 09/04/2014

Number: 1

In late August, there were 14 larvae sighted in our milkweed, different stages of development. Today there are only 5 left, the bigger ones seem to have gone on to find a site for building the pupa. I hope so. I watched one cat as it went from milkweed to turf to nearby azalea and explored lots of limbs. But a few minutes not observing and it could not be found. We are disappointed at the difficulty in tracking the caterpillars as they make pupa. Maybe next year we will try to have a good habitat to protect the larvae and allow observation of the pupa stage.
