Adults passing over at tree top height in a determined southwest direction. Movement of monarchs started Sept. 2 about 3 weeks late here. Although monarchs were a bit more numerous this year and started a bit late the milkweed was very healthy in eastern Ontario due to ample rain. There are still many larvae just going into pupae now and should supply a new wave in a couple of weeks. People along the north shore of Lake Ontario near Picton on Sunday Sept.7 reported hundreds of monarchs nectaring on goldenrod and moving along the beaches.
