Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 09/07/2014

Number: 50

Although I have seen few Monarchs this summer, this past few days there have been several accumulating around our stand of tall poplars. On Sunday Sept. 7th there were more than I've ever seen in a roost. They just kept coming! About 7 -7:30 p.m. I took some photos of 3 different places where they were gathering, and counted 50 or more. I could see that the tops of the trees quaking as they were filling with them also (80 - 90 ft up), but my camera could not distinguish them from the leaves that were flame-coloured due to the sunset. Hope tonight there are more! This is very encouraging, as for the past few years there have not been many at all.
