Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/06/2014

Number: 500

They're back! It was warm and the wind was from the south. They were roosting in two separate groves this time. It's amazing to walk around during dusk as they are coming in from the alfalfa field. So many - racing all around, trying out different trees, getting into groups. They roosted much higher in the trees this time. It was wonderful having my best friend and her husband over for dinner to see this wonderful sight. We figure there were around 350 roosting in each grove, but they were higher and the 2nd grove is out a little further with taller trees - they kept coming in from the field even as it was getting fairly dark. I conservatively listed 500, but think it could have been more.
