I seem to have lost a lot of hummingbirds this morning...on their migration south...glad they can travel but sad to see them leave. Activity at my feeders has dropped markedly since yesterday. Yesterday was cool (high of 72 F) and drizzly. Today has been cloudy with a few drips (can't even call it drizzle--it has yet to even dampen the pavement) and high of 78 F. Occasional very light SE breezes(yesterday SE breezes were around 10 mph)...oops...drizzle just started. The hummers consumed 8 oz. yesterday--today, just 3 oz. Despite there being more feeders (4) than ruby throats present, they are still doing aerial acrobatics-- chasing, flitting and darting about the yard.
Many of the birds I have seen today have fed, rested a bit, fed again then flown off in a southerly direction. God speed and safe journey to them all.
I will keep my feeders up, cleaned and filled until I have not seen any hummers for at least 3 weeks although I will decrease the number of feeders as demand lessens.
