Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 09/07/2014

Number: 100

From Sat. through Tuesday (9/6-9/9), our family has been noticing the monarch migration. We went to the Korean War Memorial by Lake Pacawa and saw them feeding at the clover patch across the street before heading over to take cover on the trees for the evening. We noticed this roughly four years ago there when the monarch population was dense, but thereafter noticed they had significantly decreased in numbers. This year they are finally back in substantial numbers, which brought joy to us knowing they are flourishing once again. We even acquired a pet monarch that I found injured on the side of the road (most likely hit by a car). My oldest daughter Ayla named her Luna, and we have been trying to give here plenty of flowers, fruit and sun to get her strength back. Unfortunately, her wings are scratched and she rarely flies. She will be taking a day trip to school so that the class may observe, write and learn about the migration.
