On 8-22 through 8-25 spotted Monarch butter flies flying and laying eggs on Asclepia syriaca (common milkweed) planted in the garden here in downtown Decatur. The eggs hatched and we have +/- 9 caterpillars of various ages and sizes. Soon they will move on the next stage. WE also have many red milkweed beetles eating the leaves and seeds. Not many Gulf Fritillary this year despite having many passion flower vines for them to eat.
