This week the first migrating Monarchs arrived at our grove. On Sunday, 4-5 Monarchs were roosting. Monday the 8th, there were a few more and yesterday, Sept 9, there were several clusters of at least 10 Monarchs. We had 24 hours of rain and cooler weather has arrived so I will check on them later today to determine whether these Monarchs fly south or hang out until more agreeable weather. Chip Taylor was correct in his estimation of Monarch numbers--I tagged only 24 Monarchs last year and I have already used my 50 tags this year. Cathy Irvine
