Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 09/10/2014

Number: 1

My wife Peggy and I went to Big Meadows in the Shenandoah National Park to search for Monarch butterflies. We found one caterpillar eating milkweed at 3:00 pm. The milkweed was plentiful. We searched a 50 foot swath to see if we could discover more caterpillars. All we found was the one. No Monarch Butterflies were sighted and this area is in their flight path. We are glad that other people are observing Monarchs which is a good sign!
