Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 09/12/2014

Number: 1

Update:
Sunday and Monday (sept 7-8) I counted a couple of dozen Monarchs feeding on goldenrod on our back hill and the big lake area. Winds were from the southeast, mainly.
Monday saw quite a few Monarchs crossing roads as I traveled north to Luck, WI in the morning.
Tuesday I spotted a dozen Monarchs still on the back hill area.
Southerly wind became calm in the afternoon. Temps in the 60s or warmer....cold front moving in tonight.
Wednesday it is wet and cold.....40 degrees. No monarchs spotted driving to New Richmond, WI and back home.
Thursday morning is low 40s but sky is cleaing, sun breaking through, temps into mid to upper 50s for high, wind out of the north 5+mph. I was slow to get out to the back hills. By the time I did, at 1:00pm. there were no Monarchs. My guess is they were still here through the cold front system and left as the sun warmed them, maybe by noon.
Was not able to find any nectar fields or Monarchs between here and Somerset later in the day.
Our Monarchs are gone; maybe we'll get a few still coming through from the north and some late emerges. At this time, my last Monarch photo is from Tuesday afternoon......
