Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/05/2014

Number: 6

Didn't see very many this year. The monarchs didn’t alight for very long but their activity was consistent with the roosting process. We will keep an eye on their favorite roosting area to see if we have another wave coming through. There is a bush in a shelter belt with leaf/seeds that resemble roosted monarchs when they get dry later in the season. We have had a late fall so the leaf/seeds are just now starting to turn “roosted monarch color”. I have always assumed they like that spot because it helps to camouflage them while they roost so our hope is that more may be coming through.
