Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/12/2014

Number: 14

I bought 3 plants in June and kept them at my home through the summer so we could order larvae for our First Grade classrooms this fall. On the 25th of August I was watering my plants before school and worrying that I hadn't order my larvae when to my surprise I spotted larvae on my plants. That evening my husband and I carted the plants to classrooms. After counting, we had 13 larvae. The next morning I found two stragglers on tiny seedling plants which they had stripped clean. I took those in a container to school. This week we released 11 Monarch Butterflies! We had one surprise larva that is still growing. We had one Monarch that did not make it and three more to release in a day or so.
