Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 09/14/2014

Number: 24

Sunrise was 7;20am with temperature at 47 degrees. At 8am a verified number of 24 hummingbirds was sighted on the four multi-perch feeders and two non-perch, small single feeders surrounding the patio and flower garden. There were numerous other hummers buzzing about making an accurate count impossible beyond the ones at the feeders. Temperatures reached 63 degrees for a high under mostly cloudy skies and damp conditions giving way to partly sunny and slight breezes. Hummer traffic was constant all day long at the feeders and blooming Rose-of-Sharons with only 14 hummers noticed before sunset at 7:52pm. The sex of the hummers spotted early this morning appeared to be; 8 adult females and 16 juveniles with one being a verified male juvenile. A few of the juveniles appear quite small leading me to think some hummers might possibly had a double brood or they bred late this season in my location, but I'm not positive. This makes three days in a row I have a verified count of more than 20 hummers, which is a greater all at one time amount than in any other past year of living here for seventeen years. I apologize for the clarity of the early morning feeder photo.
