Monarchs were definitely on the move today as the early morning temperature was 39 degrees before the day warmed up. During two hours of observation at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge, we observed 225 monarchs--the largest number this fall. The monarchs were mostly nectaring on sunflowers as they flew from point to point. While driving to and returning from the refuge, we counted another 25 monarchs along the roadways.
