Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/14/2014

Number: 75

During a 1hr walk in Thompson Park/Leslie Spit by Lake Ontario in Toronto we counted 75 Adult Monarch butterflies flying around and nectaring on and among the numerous Golden Rods in bloom in this park. It was a wonderful surprise to us, since we so far this Summer had only seen 2 Monarchs in Toronto. The previous 2 nights had been very cold in Toronto (`7-8 C)for Monarch activity, so we thought they might just be waiting for warmer weather to fly across Lake Ontario. However when I got back home I discovered (on this web-site) that a lot of Monarch 'fans' along Lake Ontario have been seeing large numbers of migrating Monarchs the past few days. I am so happy. Does it mean, that the numbers of Monarchs migrating south have increased quite a lot this year?
