One adult female dropped down from 25 ft around 3 pm and briefly nectared at red cannas. She then regained altitude to about same height and flew on south. Breezy today around 20 mph (blowing from NW toward SE with frequent white caps showing on Potomac River), partly cloudy, high 78 F (low was around 69 F due to clouds and river moderating temps). This was only the 4th monarch I have seen this year. I am glad that the midwest is showing better numbers than the past two years, but I hope the east can regain some numbers next season. I have been very sad that so few have been in this area all year.
