Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/17/2014

Number: 150

I observed 150 butterflies in 1 hour today passing by the Orford bluffs overlooking Lake Erie at Clearville Park. Weather conditions today are partly sunny 65F with a light southeast wind. This wave of butterflies appears to extend several miles inland from the lake which would make the actual number in the many thousands per hour moving through. Traffic was dodging butterflies all the way to Ridgetown this afternoon. These butterflies are in their way to Pt. Pelee, 30 miles to the south-west and the southernmost point in Canada. The current weather is expected to hold for several days.
