Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/17/2014

Number: 3

At least three female or juvenile hummingbirds on our quarter acre urban lot, fighting over the five feeders. One also repeatedly drove a monarch butterfly off a tropical milkweed. The hummingbird also caught at least one tiny insect in flight and took nectar from broccoli flowers, lantana, impatiens, and tropical milkweed in addition to taking something from the ends of spruce branches (insects? Sap?). It spent a lot of time grooming and sunning itself.
