About 6:30 p.m. I noticed there were about 10 butterflies all in the same general area of our yard. The monarchs were roosting predominantly in one pin oak tree, about 25-30 feet off the ground. They sort of bunched themselves in groups of 20 to 30 on different parts of the branches. All of the butterflies were on the west side of the tree, getting the last of the sun's rays. The majority of the monarchs had their wings closed while the rest had their wings open, showing their wonderful rich colors. When the neighbor children came close, chattering & talking, some of the butterflies flew around briefly but soon settled back onto the tree.
