Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/17/2014

Number: 3

I came home from work in the early afternoon to find a male monarch feeding at the dwarf butterfly bush. It was gone in a few minutes. An hour later, still searching for monarchs or hummingbirds, a brief bit of orange caught my eye. A newly eclosed female monarch was hanging on a goldenrod plant a few inches above the empty chrysalis shell. I was happy to know another of the late August caterpillars made it to flight. While watching her dry over the next hour or so, another female monarch came in briefly to nectar at the flowers. May they all find their way.
